What are cookies ?

A cookie (also called an HTTP cookie) is a small text file that a website puts on the hard drive of your computer when you visit the site.

Such cookies can have different purposes: there are technical cookies (for language settings, for example), session cookies (temporary cookies) and tracking cookies (cookies that follow and track your behaviour on the website in order to offer you a more optimal user experience).

The Belgian law contains some provisions regarding cookies, and their use on websites. The Belgian law is derived from the European e-Privacy Directive, which implies that the use of cookies and cookie legislation is regulated differently in each European country.

Duration of cookies

Cookies have a lifetime. Some cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Others (e.g. those containing login information) may remain on your computer for years if you do not delete them.
You usually can’t tell what a cookie is for. Cookies are text files, but the content of those files is usually unreadable computer code. The real data is in the database of the website.

This is a cookie “strictly necessary for the service” and further, this cookie is not “privacy invading” as it does not contain any information about the user.

This cookie is used to distinguish simultaneous users and/or logged-in users of the website, so that the requested information and/or the desired access is made available to the user in question, and thus to simplify and link the actions of a user during a browser session. This cookie is also used by certain source code and extensions to prevent abuse.

Refusing cookies

You can set your browser to refuse all cookies, but this will cause many sites to stop working properly. It is better to allow cookies selectively. All browsers distinguish between useful cookies from the site you are visiting, and third party cookies that hitch a ride.

Right of access and correction or deletion of your data

You have the right to request access to and correction or deletion of your data. Please refer to our privacy page. To prevent abuse, we may ask you to provide adequate identification.
